Piece de Resistance: Creating a Cozy Breakfast Nook

One of my favorite parts of the Room of the Week is the darling breakfast nook in the corner.   It’s flooded with natural light and is the only spot in the kitchen sporting bright color.  The light over head, the colorful clock on the wall, the bright blue table, and the orange fabric on the pillows all helps to create a focal point within the room, and an intimate space for a meal.

You don’t need a built-in bench, or a large corner to create a breakfast nook.  You only need two things : 1. Make sure you have a focal point to draw the eye into the space, and 2. find a way to make the space feel intimate.

In my pretend example the unique pendant lighting would draw the eye to the seating arrangement, the rug would tie the furniture all together, and the high-backed bench helps to create an intimate space.  Here are a few other examples of breakfast nooks created without a built-in spot – in each space look for the design element that makes the nook a focal point, and the design element that helps to make the space feel intimate.
