Piece de Resistance: Using Yellow Tile

The yellow tile in the Room of the Week stopped me in my tracks when I first saw the photo.  My initial reaction was awe…it’s bold and bright especially against the rough concrete and tile.  And, my next thought was that I could NEVER have yellow tile in my own house…too bright…too bold.

Why do I love it here so much though?

  1. The setting…the house is in Mexico, where bold and bright colors in interiors are perfectly normal.  The yellow fits right in.
  2. The abundance of natural light in the room makes it possible to use a bold bright color.  If the room were dark the sunny yellow would feel garish instead.
  3. There are plenty of dark colors to balance it out.  The contrast helps tone down the bright and lighten up the dark.

I pinned a TON of yellow tiled kitchens on my Tile Pinterest Board Here…so you can see some great examples of yellow tile in a variety of stylish kitchens.

And,if you are want to add a little yellow tile of your own…here are a few of my favorites:

Too bright…too bold…or just the right amount of sunny?
