I visited the National Gallery of Art this weekend and saw a version of the Savonarola Chair, or the X Chair. It reminded me that nothing is new…it’s all been done before. The x-benches in the Room of the Week are definitely based on the X Chair from medieval Italy.
I love that furniture designs from today can be traced back so many years. And, I think that’s what makes the x-bench so iconic. That, and it’s a very versatile piece to have in your home. A pair of x-benches looks great at the foot of the bed in our Room of the Week, but there are many other uses for them around the house…take a look.
When I started researching x-benches for this post I had images of only completely upholstered(legs included) pieces in my head. But, I quickly found x-benches that will appeal to any style.
