Piece de Resistance: Butcher-Block Countertops

It might be just me, but I usually associated butcher block countertops with a country kitchen rather than a modern style, until I saw how sleek they look in the Room of the Week. I love the contrast of the black countertops used on the perimeter of the kitchen with the butcher-block used on the island.  And, I did a little more research to find how butcher-block is used in other modern kitchens.
