Piece de Resistance: A Modern Wingback Chair

The tall wingback chair in the Room of the Week is definitely the piece de resistance.  It was the first thing that caught my eye because of its height.  Even though it’s a more traditional piece it fits the room perfectly.  The upholstery matches the upholstery on the rest of the pieces in the room.  The curvy lines soften all the straight edges in the room. And, the scale of the piece draws your eye into the room.  My favorite part is that the chair came from a thrift store and they updated it to match the modern room…modern fabric and light wood.

I see wingback chairs on Craigslist and at thrift stores all the time…usually they sport outdated fabric and wood finishes (think florals from the 80s and shiny dark wood), but those could be easy to change.  This room and my little round-up below have me rethinking this style of chair.

Which one is your favorite and why? I’m pretty taken with #8 from West Elm… I love the wood details along the seat, and the black leather looks so chic.
